On the Road to Ruin lyrics
Traveling this hard road
Full of potholes and bumps
It’s hard to drive straight
Avoiding hitting all the bricks and lumps

Can’t see no where to stop
Maybe there by that field of yellow crops
I can go see if the farmer’s in
Might turn out that he’s family or kin

I can hear the bulls all mooing
Maybe I’ll just carry on
Down this road to ruin

Highway man tapped me up
Said “Money or your life”?
I said “You’re too late
Already given it all to the wife”!

Said as he tipped his hat
“Don’t say no more, I know all about that”
I said “Good luck, have a busy day”
He said “It’s a tough road trav’lin this way”!

Don’t seem like there’s nothing doing
Looks like I’ll just carry on
Down this road to ruin

Processions block the road
Looks like Easter or some fair
I can’t pass on by
Citizens disguised in strange clothes march there

One asked me for a ride
I said “What’s all this for”? He said “Gay Pride”!
I said “I don’t mean to appear thick
But it’s only me that shifts this gear stick”!

I could hear the crowd a-booing
For sure I’ll just carry on
Down this road to ruin

Disappeared out of town
Pressed the pedal to the floor
Was sure a strange place
What would anyone wanna live there for?

Say all roads lead to Rome
I sure do hope this road leads me home
There’s no place like it I gotta say
Been on this road too long, there I’m gonna stay

My home town I’ll soon be viewing
I’m not gonna carry on
No more road to ruin
