My Gambling Man tells the story of a woman who is caught in the emotional and financial turmoil of being with a man who is both a lover and an obsessive gambler. Despite his hard work during the day, he spends his nights gambling, and the woman finds herself struggling to make ends meet. Bills pile up, and rent goes unpaid, leaving her questioning how they’ll survive. She contemplates taking drastic measures, like getting an extra job or borrowing money from dangerous sources, but knows that debt is an endless cycle. The song explores the tension between love and addiction, as the woman is deeply in love with her partner but is torn by the destructive nature of his gambling. Her devotion to him is clear, yet she’s caught in a constant struggle to stay afloat in their sinking life together. Despite her love, she faces the painful truth that sometimes, love alone isn’t enough to fix the destructive patterns they’re caught in. The lyrics express a sense of helplessness and emotional conflict, highlighting the battle between affection and the damage caused by addiction.

My Gambling Man lyrics
My man is a lover and a gambler too
My man is a lover and a gambler too
I’m telling it to you so it must be true
He works all day and then gambles all night
He works all day and then gambles all night
Don’t know from where he gets his strength and his might

I work so hard to pay off the rent
I work so hard to pay off the rent
Before I make my money it all been spent

Bills are piling up and the rents not paid
Bills are piling up and the rents not paid
How we gonna survive how we gonna be saved

I could maybe get an extra job
Or take a few black loans from the Mob
I could maybe get an extra job
Or take a few black loans from the Mob

Debt is a hole that never ends
It goes straight down to hell and doesn’t bend
Debt is a hole that never ends
It goes straight down to hell and doesn’t bend

There’s a big hole in this sinking boat
I’m fighting the odds to stay afloat
There’s a big hole in this sinking boat
And I’m fighting the odds to stay afloat

You’re addicted and you know it’s true
You’re addicted and you know it’s true
I wish I knew how to help you

“Be cruel to be kind” is what they say
“Be cruel to be kind” is what they say
Couldn’t do nothing to hurt you, that’s the price I pay

You mean the world to me and much more
You mean the world to me and much more
You’re what I came to this world for

But I love you so, you know I do
I love you so, you know I do
But sometimes there’s just no pleasing you

But your itchy fingers just can’t keep still
Itching all day till they get their fill
Your itchy fingers just can’t keep still
Doing anything to get you your thrill

My man is a lover and a gambler too
My man is a lover and a gambler too
I’ve told this to you so it must be true
